A collection of significant items and a Prezi

It was a wristband.

I chose this object because it signifies a turning point in my life. I found myself in new and unplanned position of independence and I suppose this was the first step into my new single world so the Glastonbury 2010 staff wristband holds fond memories for me.

I'd spent the last sixteen years watching and listening to Glasto coverage religiously at home, in the hope that one day I'd make it there. As sad as it now seems, I even used to book time off work to spend the weekend watching it on TV.  The bed's comfier and there's never any mud.

As it turns out, I went and I got to spend a week there, got free entry and a wage. I managed to get behind the pyramid stage during the pre-production days before the event opens to the public and it was the whole experience which had a profound effect and helped me decide to return to education and do something for myself for a change - a change which would hopefully alter my future for the better.

So, today I used Prezi for the first time and we were divided into groups. The other students in my group had  each also brought an important object with them.  As a collective, we discussed the reasons for the selection of objects we had each chosen.  We were able to find a few common connections with these objects and decided to go with the idea that they all conjured memories of some form or another.

I found this exercise useful because it started to make me think in more details about how different types of media can be utilised and presented in a manner in which to tell a story through images, video, text, audio and animation. Check out the link below.

Not at all bad for our first effort :)
